Henry Park Pelican Scouts
Established in 1982 as the Henry Park Cadet Scout Unit, the unit has a proud history of developing young Scouts through adventure, service, and leadership. In 2004, the unit was renamed the Henry Park Pelican Scouts, reflecting the school's identity and establishing a distinctive unit identity with its own badge and scarf.
Today, Pelican Scouts continues to provide members with meaningful opportunities to develop practical skills, character, leadership, and a strong spirit of service. Through a combination of outdoor adventures, scouting activities, teamwork, and community involvement, our Scouts learn to challenge themselves, support one another, and grow into confident and responsible individuals.
Through regular meetings and activities, members develop essential scouting skills such as knot-tying, outdoor cooking, first aid, navigation, and campcraft. Outdoor experiences, including camps and night hikes, encourage our Scouts to step outside their comfort zones, think independently, solve problems, and remain resilient in unfamiliar situations. These experiences help them appreciate the importance of being prepared, resourceful, and dependable.
Teamwork and leadership form an integral part of the Pelican Scouts experience. Members work together during games, outdoor challenges, camps, and scouting activities, learning to communicate effectively and encourage one another. As they take on different roles and responsibilities, they develop confidence in making decisions, taking initiative, and leading their peers. Through these experiences, our Scouts learn that leadership is not simply about taking charge, but also about serving others and contributing to the success of the team.
Service is another important pillar of our programme. Members are encouraged to contribute to the school and wider community through service activities, developing empathy, respect, and a willingness to help others. They learn that meaningful service can begin with simple acts of kindness, responsibility, and consideration for those around them.
Pelican Scouts also provides members with opportunities to participate in exciting events and challenges. Activities such as the Amazing Trail allow Scouts to put their skills into practice as they navigate checkpoints, work as a team, solve problems, and take on new challenges. Such experiences encourage adaptability, perseverance, and camaraderie while making learning memorable and enjoyable.
We believe that the values and experiences cultivated through Pelican Scouts extend far beyond the CCA. Through adventure, teamwork, leadership, and service, our members develop resilience, confidence, discipline, initiative, and a strong sense of responsibility — qualities that will serve them well in school and throughout their lives.
