The Chinese Orchestra CCA offers students a wonderful opportunity to discover the beauty of Chinese music, learn to play traditional Chinese musical instruments and experience the joy of making music together. Through ensemble playing, students develop an appreciation of Chinese culture while building confidence, friendships and a strong sense of teamwork.
The CCA aims to nurture students’ musical interest and develop important life skills such as discipline, perseverance, responsibility and collaboration. Students learn to listen to one another, support their fellow musicians and work together towards a common goal. More importantly, they gain confidence and a sense of achievement as they see their hard work come together in a performance.
Students take part in regular sectional and full-orchestra practices, where they develop instrumental techniques, rhythm, musical expression and ensemble skills. They also have opportunities to perform at school celebrations, community events and other special occasions. These experiences allow students to step onto the stage, share their music with others and grow in confidence.
Our Chinese Orchestra has performed at school events such as Chinese New Year celebrations and HPPS Celebrates concerts, as well as community outreach programmes through VIA. Students have also participated in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF), gaining valuable experience in preparing for and performing as an ensemble.
